Special Events 2008

The Metro Parks Big Band Dances have become a summer tradition in Nashville that attracts large crowds of all types and levels of dancers, plus those who just come to enjoy the music.  This year's concerts will include free dance lessons by Dance World instructors, http://www.danceworldtn.com, from 7:00 to 7:30 pm and from 8:30 to 8:50 pm.  Open dancing is from 7:30 to 10:00 pm. and, as before, are held at the Centennial Park Event Shelter (behind the Parthenon, near the sunken garden) in Centennial Park, located at 2500 West End Ave. in downtown Nashville.  So bring your lawn chair and picnic basket for a real summertime treat, or Centennial Café will be selling food & beverages.  Sidewalk chalk will be provided in a special corner for children to keep them safe.  For more info, check out the Metro Parks web site calendar http://www.nashville.gov/parks/events_calendar.htm or call 862-8424, or  WAMB http://www.wamb.net/62.html.

July 6 (Sunday) - The Music City Chapter of USA Dance (formerly USABDA) is holding their monthly dance party at DanceWorld.  With Dr. Ming Wang  as their president, and great people in the group, they have new style & energy.  Dance World has 2 large dance floors, and is conveniently located at 630 Rundle Avenue.  Plan to arrive at 2:00 PM for the free lesson by one of their professional instructors, then stay for the open dancing until 5:30 PM.  Cost is only $10 for members and $12 for non members, and no partner is needed, just come & have fun.  For more info, check out the Dance World web site,  http://www.danceworldtn.com/

July 10, 17, 24, 31 (Thursdays) - The First United Methodist Church is offering a set of free Latin Ballroom Dance Classes featuring Salsa, Cha Cha, Rhumba & Merengue as part of their Health & Wellness Ministry.  They will have a lesson from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and dancing from 7:30 to 8:00 pm.   The event will be in the Gym on July 10 & the Genesis Hall the other nights.  The church is located at 217 E. July 13, 14, 15 (Sunday, Monday, Tuesday) - The Southern Rhapsody Dance Society (SRDS) is again hosting “Summer Nights” Dance Festival at the famous Indiana Roof Ballroom, located in the Embasssy Suites Hotel, at 140 West Washington St. in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.  This will provide over 8000 sq ft of dance floor. Southern Rhapsody Dance Society has gained the reputation of producing the best Big Band “Social” Ballroom Dances by combining great bands, large dance floors, beautiful accommodations, and good people, at reasonable prices.  The package includes 3 Dances (Sun-Mon-Tue), 2 nights Accommodations (Sun-Mon), Hotel Manager’s Reception (Sun-Mon Evening), Dance Exhibition (Mon), 2 Breakfasts (Mon-Tue), and a Group Dance Lesson (Mon afternoon).  The bands are:
